6 months gone

A very sad day. Today we had to sell Jimmy, our beloved truck and companion over the last 10,000 miles. He's never let us down. Everywhere we went, he went.
Ah well, flying off to Fiji tomorrow, three plane changes and we'll be there. We are staying in Fiji for 4 days then flying onto New Zealand next Saturday for two months.

From Belize to New Zealand via Fiji

Belize was a brilliant place for bird watchers and water sport lovers. By visiting Belize we feel we have had a good sample of what Central America has to offer. With our Galapagos work falling through and the difficulty of driving the truck through some of the countries in Central America we decided to return to America. Hopefully to sell the truck and organise a round the world flight to New Zealand, Fiji, Australia and home. Although we are very disappointed not to continue on through Central America we have had a fantastic time so far and are looking forward to the rest of our travels.

This lorry is competely loaded down with Belize's main crop, sugar cane.

Wash day in Belize.

This bridge had been washed away by a hurricane earlier in the year.

Walked down into St Herman's cave with just a wind-up torch to see by. The caves are very interesting because the Mayans believed they were closer to the Underworld in the caves and left offerings and carvings to their Gods.
As we lay in the truck we heard a roaring noise coming towards us. We learnt the next day that it was the sound of two male Howler monkeys fighting.

We even spent one night sleeping in the truck listening to all the sounds of the jungle. It was pretty scary, but not half as scary as sharing a bunk house with an un-named rodent who stared at us, with piercing eyes, as we attempted to sleep.

It was worth the hard hike up the mountain for the view over the jungle canopy.

Came to a waterfall and cool spring, after a hike in all the heat the temptation was too much.

Hiked through the jungle listening to all the noises, some we could identify, others we couldn't.

After Christmas we drove down into the jungle at the southerly end of Belize to spend a few nights.
