This is the main temple with exactly 365 niches, one for every day of the year, thought to be agriculturally related.

In this photograph you can see where the niches have been cut out. Perhaps these niches were used to store offerings for the Gods.

Visited El Tajin a well preserved Mayan ruin. This site has been reclaimed from the jungle.

These are the Voladores de Papantla. Four men throw themselves off a small platform with only one leg tied to a piece of rope. They spiral down head first until they reach the floor. (Don´t ask us why!)

There was always something happening in the village square.

View from our hotel balcony.

Papantla was the next stop. A typical Mexican town. We stayed here for a few days as we enjoyed it´s unique atmosphere.

This is the road up to our hotel.

We passed miles of banana plantations, citrus groves and sugar canes.

We were surprised how green and lush the countryside was as we drove down the Gulf of Mexico.

Sunset over river Tuxpan, our second stop.

First stop in Mexico, Tampico.

We also had to contend with various animals straying onto the road, including dog, sheep, cows, donkeys and horses.

Five lanes of traffic all swopping, weaving and changing lanes, if there were any lanes.

Mexico

At last we got our paper work sorted out and crossed the border into Mexico at Brownsville. Driving in Mexico was everything we were warned it would be.....

We had pot holes as big as the truck to avoid.

And roads that suddenly disappeared.

Millie decided to give Dave a rest from driving' South Padre Island, Texas.

Osprey with lunch (may need to enlarge)

The most interesting thing to do was to count the road kill and identify the species.

Couldnt face another day of driving on the main road. Only 200 miles left until Brownsville and Mexican border.

Nearly there! This is day 4, still on the same road and another 300 miles.

Day 3 another 300 miles and still not there.... same road though.

.....and this is day 2.

Texas

We didnt realise how big Texas was until we drove it! This is day 1.

Heading through New Mexico towards Texas.

Arizona's Norwich City Football Clubs number 1 fan with our lucky mascot.

Legal at last, thanks Steve.

Saw lots of different cactus, this one is the cuddly bear cactus.

Me and my cousin, Carella

Had an enjoyable walk and picnic at Sabino Canyon.

Abundant wildlife in the garden. After years of watching the cartoon we saw both roadrunner and coyotes. Beep beep!

I couldn't beleive when we looked out of their window the wonderful views they had over the desert.

Tucson

Finally managed to met my cousin Carella and her husband Steve in Tucson. Had a fantastic week thanks to them and their friends. Carella is a wonderful cook and Steve kept the beers flowing and helped sort the truck out.

Spent an intersting morning visiting the old mining ghost town where gold was first discovered. Then had to collapse by the swimming pool in the afternoon.

Relaxing on the porch of the Saloon (temperature 95f)

Dave riding in the desert with Suspicious Mountains and goldmines in the background.

He's off again!

The cactus has to be over 80 years old before they begin to grow arms.

Millie was determined to climb this cactus inspite of the prickles.

Indian Reservation

As we headed further south the landscape changed again.
